Chargers Exterminate Hornets

Arren Nunez hits a grand Slam to lift Cypress past Fullerton College.

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress College softball bounced back from their first Orange Empire Conference loss of the year with a mercy rule shortened 12-3 pounding of the over-matched Fullerton College Hornets at home on Friday.

The Chargers (18-4, 9-1) scored 12 runs on a 13 hit offensive eruption that was led by sophomore Jessica Reichner's 3 for 5 day at the plate. Reichner finished with three RBI and two runs scored. Mallory Campbell also chipped in with three hits against the Hornets (4-12, 1-8). Arren Nunez had a team-high four RBI after blasting a grand slam over the left center field wall in a six run bottom of the third for Cypress College.

Cypress finished off Fullerton with the mercy rule when Reichner hit a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth.

The Chargers Stephanie Luhmann earned her sixth win of the year after coming into relieve starting pitcher Monique Hernandez in the first inning. Luhmann struck out six in four innings of shutout ball.

Cypress returns to action next week when they host Saddleback College on Wednesday, March 21 at 3 p.m.
